We have several positions available: chairperson, secretary, treasurer, events officer and PR officer. Chairperson
Leadership & overall responsibility

Lead the association and ensure everything runs smoothly day to day; most overall responsibility on the board.

Oversee the work of the other board members and be ready to give advice or step in when they need help.
-
Serve as the "face" of the association, modeling the standards and conduct expected of the whole board.
-
Oversees board affairs, ensuring the integrity of the board's process in governing and supporting the organization.
Running meetings
-
Write the agenda for the weekly board meetings, including all relevant points and making sure each one is actually addressed.
-
Coordinate and facilitate the meeting so that everyone feels heard.
-
Keep meetings orderly and productive. Best-practice sources add that an effective chair should create a purposeful agenda, run a productive meeting, engage each board member in deliberation, and control dominating or out-of-line behavior during meetings.
External representation
-
Represent the association externally to partners, sponsors, and other contacts.
-
Answer most incoming emails (with help from the Secretary) - responsible for external communication with important guests.

Reach out to sponsors when needed (with help from the Treasurer).

Always stay polite and professional in emails and in meetings with external partners.
Supporting the team
-
Help other board members with their tasks when their workload becomes too much, taking some of it on yourself where you're able.

Check in on board members' personal situations throughout the year.

Step in to ease conflicts that are affecting members' performance.

Secretary
As the Secretary of ASA International Law, you will be responsible for the communication, documentation, and administrative coordination that keeps the board informed, connected, and running professionally throughout the academic year.
Key duties and responsibilities include:

Attending weekly board meetings and producing accurate minutes, including key discussion points, decisions made, and action items assigned.

Managing the association's shared inbox, routing queries to the appropriate board member and maintaining records of important correspondence.

Drafting, reviewing, and sending emails on behalf of the board to members, partners, and external stakeholders, ensuring a consistent and professional tone.
-
Producing and editing formal documents and announcements as requested, maintaining the association's formatting and tone standards across all materials.
-
Maintaining a shared document library accessible to all board members, including an organised archive of meeting minutes throughout the year.
-
Supporting individual board members with written materials, correspondence, and documentation across projects and events.
-
Acting as a flexible resource during peak periods such as events, elections, and key deadlines, stepping in wherever board-wide support is needed.
Major administrative responsibilities for ASA International Law during the 2025–2026 academic year included documentation and communications support for the ASA Pub Quiz Night, ASA Careers Borrel, and the ICC Panel Event featuring ICC Judge Beti Hohler.
Treasurer
As the Treasurer of ASA International Law,, you will be responsible for the financial management, oversight, and sustainability of the association's operations and events throughout the academic year.
Key duties and responsibilities include:

Attending weekly board meetings and contributing to strategic planning and decision-making, particularly regarding financial feasibility and resource allocation.

Developing and maintaining the annual budget, tracking income and expenditures against board-approved targets.
-
Processing all financial transactions, including reimbursements, invoice payments and member fee collections.
-
Liaising with external partners such as sponsors, suppliers and the university’s financial administration.
-
Preparing regular financial reports and balance sheets for the board and, where required, the membership.
-
Working closely with the Event Officer on event-specific budgets, cost control and post-event financial reconciliation.
-
Assisting with funding applications, sponsorship negotiations and ensuring timely payment from all stakeholders.
-
Monitoring the association’s financial position and advising the board on risk management, savings goals and long-term financial planning.

Events officer
As Event Officer for ASA International Law, you will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of the association's events throughout the academic year.
Key duties and responsibilities include:

Attending weekly board meetings and contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.

Developing event concepts and proposing new initiatives to enhance member engagement.
-
Drafting event plans, timelines, and logistical arrangements.
-
Liaising with venues, guest speakers, attendees, and external stakeholders.
-
Coordinating event budgets and expenditure in consultation with the Treasurer.
-
Working closely with the Public Relations Officer on event promotion, advertising, and communication with members.
-
Assisting with the organisation and smooth running of events before, during, and after their execution.

Monitoring attendance and gathering feedback to support future event planning.
Major events organised by ASA International Law during the 2025–2026 academic year included the Hague Day Trip, ASA Pub Quiz Night, ASA Careers Borrel, and the ICC Panel Event featuring ICC Judge Beti Hohler.
PR Officer
As PR Officer for ASA International Law, you will be responsible for the association’s public image, online presence, and promotion of events and initiatives throughout the academic year.
Key duties and responsibilities include:

Attending weekly board meetings and contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.

Managing ASA’s social media platforms, mainly Instagram, by posting event announcements, updates, and other ASA-related content.

Promoting ASA events to members, non-member students, and wider student networks.
-
Developing creative marketing strategies to increase event visibility, engagement, and attendance.
-
Creating promotional materials for events, including posters, Instagram posts, stories, and other visual content through Canva.
-
Preparing presentations and visual materials used during ASA events, where required.
-
Managing and updating the ASA website through Wix, including posting events, updating information, and managing event tickets.
-
Publishing ASA Magazine articles on the website, proofreading submissions, and ensuring suitable cover images are used.
-
Acting as the point of contact for ASA Magazine writers regarding the publication of their articles.
-
Taking pictures during events for promotional and archival purposes.
-
Coordinating the creation of the ASA Careers Brochure, including designing the brochure and collecting career advice from professionals in relevant fields.
Major PR-related projects during the 2025–2026 academic year included the promotion of ASA events, designing the new ASA logo, the publication of ASA Magazine articles, the management of ASA’s online platforms, and the creation of the ASA Careers Brochure.
